We wouldn’t mind if all future Apple keynotes were held here. Check out these pictures Apple’s been showing off on the live stream the last few minutes:

Behold: The Moscow Apple Museum
Behold: The Moscow Apple Museum

At first glance, it looks as if someone’s raided a high street Apple Store, stolen all the iPhones and iPads and MacBooks Air, and dumped a load of retro computers in their place.

Look closer, and you’ll begin to understand what a remarkable achievement this place is.

Welcome to the Moscow Apple Museum, owned and operated by 46-year-old computer engineer Andrey Antonov. If ever you felt the need to explain to your kids how Apple got where it is today, this is the place to take them.

Apple is gonna sell an insane amount of these tablets this holiday season.
Apple is gonna sell an insane amount of these tablets this holiday season.

The iPad mini’s rumored announcement is drawing near, with many speculating that Apple will unveil the mythical device by mid-October. We’ve seen a few part leaks of the smaller tablet, and The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Apple is starting to ramp up mass production for the expected launch. Hopefully low yield rates overseas can pick up to meet what will undoubtedly be crazy consumer demand.

Martin Hajek made some strikingly accurate concept designs for the iPhone 5 before it was announced, and now he’s back with Gizmodo for the iPad mini:

Apple is widely considered the most secretive company on earth, so any chance to get even a tiny peek behind its walls is a rare one. When you visit Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, you can’t get past the gift shop without a special friend. If you’re lucky, you’ll get treated to a delicious lunch at the company’s Caffe Macs. That leaves the rest of Infinite Loop up to your imagination.

A neat service called Worldcam uses Instagram’s GPS data to gather all of the photos shared from a specific location. We’ve collected some rare shots from inside and around Apple’s top secret HQ:

The Ultimate iPhone 5 Destruction Video Gallery

By

willitdunk

Humans have progressed a long way since the days of “Will It Blend?” Rather than just tossing an iPhone into a blender, we now have dozens of ways we like to watch the iPhone get destroyed on YouTube. After the iPhone 5 was released on Friday the internet went to work on different ways to destroy it – like having an NBA player dunk it, blowing it up in a microwave, or shooting it with a .50 caliber rifle.

Here are  the best iPhone 5 destruction videos:

The Ugly Side Of Apple’s iOS 6 Maps App Fully Exposed [Gallery]

By

It’s no secret that Apple’s new iOS Maps app has been a pretty big letdown so far. Surely Apple is working on perfecting the app and correcting a lot of erroneous data, but if you’ve already updated to iOS 6 you’re stuck with maps that have a tendency to glitch out on you, especially if you live outside the U.S.

The Amazing iOs 6 Maps is a new Tumblr account dedicated to the uglier side of Apple’s new maps app. They’ve compiled a ton of screenshots of iOS 6 Maps doing terrible things. Here’s some of the best/worst ones so far:

Timbuk2 Factory Tour Highlights Offshoring Issues at Apple [Gallery]

Timbuk2_factory_06_CULT_OF_MAC_APPLE_BAGS_MANUFACTURING_JOBS

SAN FRANCISCO — American companies are rightly proud to show off any manufacturing facilities supporting jobs during the current recession, and San Francisco-based Timbuk2 is no exception. This week, the company known for its messenger bags showed us the hangar here in the Mission district where workers cut and sew colorful swaths of material and help contribute to the local manufacturing economy.

As a group of reporters was ushered through the trendy open-plan set-up, it made us think about what a factory tour of Apple’s manufacturing plants would be like. We’ll never know, of course. Tim Cook would never allow a tour like this one.

The iPod Nano: A History Of Apple Quirkiest iPod [Gallery]

By

ipodnanos

When the original iPod nano was introduced on September 7, 2005, it was one of Apple’s greatest design achievements. In a bold move, Apple decided to replace their iPod Mini with the unbelievably small iPod nano, even though the 2nd-gen Mini had only been on the market for eight months and was the popular iPod.

Over the last eight years, the iPod Nano has experienced more design changes than any other Apple product. It’s gone from metal to plastic, tall to fat, and click-wheel to touch, with more color changes than a chameleon.

We stopped by Yerba Buena to get a look at the signage Apple is putting up. Check out more on-location shots from Yerba Buena in our gallery below.

Seven Bizarre iPhone Concepts That Apple Almost Made For Real [Gallery]

By

Screen Shot 2012-09-07 at 9.42.37 AM
Apple almost made this iPhone. Really.

Over the past few years we’ve seen hundreds of fake iPhone mockups, some have been bizarre, while others looked so good we wished they were real. What’s been most surprising is that some of the weirdest looking concepts are actually fairly similar to prototypes Apple was working on in their labs.

Thanks to the evidence in the Apple vs Samsung trial, we got to see the different iPhone prototypes Apple was working on, so we’ve gone back and found 7 artists mockups that look a lot like prototypes Apple was working on.

A Look Back At Apple’s iPhone And iPod Media Event Invites [Gallery]

By

wwdc2012

Apple is pretty much the most cryptic company on earth, so everything related to Apple is heavily scrutinized, including the media invites it sends out to select members of the press. An Apple invite is like a confirmation from above — months of speculation and wishful thinking is confirmed or shot down in a single moment.

Apple event invites are often read like magical tea leaves; hints are usually contained in the invite itself that foreshadow what to expect.

Today Apple sent out invites for its iPhone event next Wednesday, September 12th, 2012. We thought it would be as good a time as any to take a look back at Apple’s past iPhone and iPod invites from the last several years, starting with the original iPhone.

This Is What Ashton Kutcher Looks Like Playing Steve Jobs After His Return To Apple [Gallery]

By

We’re a little bit skeptical that jOBS — the upcoming biopic of Steve Jobs’s life from 1971 to 2000 starring That 70s Show doofus Ashton Kutcher — will be any good, but you’ve got to admit, Kutcher surprisingly looks the part. Check out these new photos of him in his buttoned-down, vest-wearing phase in the late 90s. More pictures below.
