Journalists Cover Microsoft, Using Macs

It’s not an easy time for Microsoft — with Steve Ballmer having to field questions about being “buffoons” and an “evil empire”  at the shareholder’s meeting (.doc) — so when they get together “the world’s most influential technology pundits and online writers” (nb: we weren’t invited) for Mobius to discuss super-secret mobile tech you’d think [...]

Review: Voices Is Today’s Best Thing Ever, Grab It Now While It’s Cheap

New on the App Store is Voices from the clever folk at Tap Tap Tap. You can guess what it does.

Open it up, pick a silly voice. Helium is pretty silly. A microphone appears and the app even clears your throat for you (try it, you’ll see what I mean). Now speak your brains, and [...]

Review: Sony Walkman S540 Series Video MP3 Player

Press releases, you will hardly be surprised to hear, are rarely very interesting. But one arrived in my inbox a couple of weeks ago that made me double-take.
“Sony’s S Series Walkman,” it chattered, “is a serious challenger to the iPod Nano.” Gosh, really? Perhaps the Cult had better have a look at one, then, despite [...]

Rumor: Apple Event By the End of February?

MacWorld was oddly devoid of non-MacBook Air, AppleTV software and Time Capsule product announcements this year. No new MacBooks, iMacs, or MacBook Pros, and no new iPods or iPhones. Apple remedied the latter this Tuesday with double-capacity iPod touch and iPhones, but other new hardware or the iPhone and touch SDK were nowhere to be seen.

TUAW claims to have a tip that the company that typically broadcasts Apple events, MIRA Mobile, is looking to hire people for an unannounced Apple event at the end of the month. My top priority is a new MacBook Pro, but my old iPod just conked out, so the SDK for the touch would be pretty compelling, too…

The Mac Mini has also been neglected of late. It would be nice if there was something happening (besides canceling) of that line. All aluminum, like the iMac?

Uh, just so you know, this story is showing up FOUR times in your RSS feed.

I don’t understand why everyone really wants there to be a new iPhone released. I love my iPhone, and there is no way it is old enough for them to release a new one already..

I’m holding out hope for a new MacBook Pro as well, but I think that’s just because I wanted to buy one.

But I’m with themark up there too – the poor Mac Mini could use some new polish as well!

Pete, you’re holding out for an iPod Touch? Do you not already use an iPhone?! Surely you don’t have both.

I think the (small) MacBook Pro update will come out the week before the 26th, then if/when there is an announcement it will be purely iPhone/Touch SDK +/- an additional Touch device.

Air Pro? Not sure what a new MBP would have that calls for this kind of show, I can’t see any big cosmetic changes (please leave the keyboard alone!), it’s got the improved touch pad, it’s got LED. Unless it goes dual-processor and/or Air, I can’t see it. But then Apple’s never been afraid to screw with a winner, and they always seem to make enough good changes to compensate for all the stuff they toss out.

The mini makes sense, since it’s the oldest design (accounting for the MBP refreshes). They could make it the new miniature Cube, and then sell a bunch of the Air external DVDs to go with it. Or they could just Air-ify it; basically making it into a coaster.

But I won’t be shocked if it’s none of the above. I’m gonna speculate that it’s either a 3G iPhone (whoop-de-freakin-do), or else some software/web announcement no one is expecting. Of course Yahoo! is now off the table… Maybe they’ve bought Parallels? Last far-flung guess: a big Xserve push. An Xserve that’ll run Windows Server apps could be the wedge that finally opens the corporate door. Maybe big changes to .Mac to make it a better alternative to Google Apps. And more than just a slow backup server.

    I’m just spitballin’ here.

Whoa! I just had a serious flash: What about a MBP with a Multi-Touch screen?!

That would set a lot of peoples’ hair on fire.

“Or they could just Air-ify it; basically making it into a coaster.”

    Hilarious!

i saw the air this weekend and i really did not like it! maybe they will announce that the price is being dropped $500 and the product is being cancelled. that would make good business sense.

I am praying it is a Air Prothat would be the best!! Someone mentioned MIRA is a company that is hiring for the announcement, I googled MIRA but nothing comes up. Is there another name I can google for that. What would they be hiring someone to do, where would it be? I want to go. Please give me any info so that I can digg up these answers and get to go to it. A 15 inch as thin as the Air with 300gb hard drive and WImaxx and a 2.8ghz processor would be perfect. oh also lets make sure it is like the air and still does not have the cd/dvd drive, I think that is so cool to make it a purely wireless machine. God I hope its this!!!!!!!!!!!!! please help me out with the info on MIRA
