Report: Palm Pre To Hit Shelves In May

Sprint reportedly will launch the Palm Pre in May, timing that could steal the thunder of an expected new version of Apple’s iPhone.
According to the Boy Genius Report Web site, Sprint documents suggest Palm could begin shipping its touch-screen phone in May, a month before many believe Cupertino will introduce its next-generation iPhone.
The Pre, a touch-screen smartphone widely viewed as a rival to Apple’s popular handset, essentially replaces the Treo 755p.
Palm and Apple have recently engaged in saber-rattling over potential patent-infringement questions. Interim Apple CEO Tim Cook told reporters the company would “use whatever weapons we have at our disposal” to prevent its iPhone patents from being “ripped-off.”
Palm has responded that it is confident the Pre could withstand such legal challenges.

I thought the original rationale for the iPhone was to have an iPod that was also a mobile phone. This allows me to avoid carrying around a phone and an iPod. This makes me happy.
The iPod Touch & iPhone are so brilliant for non-phone related features (musics, video, apps, email, web, etc) that the moment I got a non-iPhone phone I’d have to get an iPod Touch and carry both around.
That is not an attractive proposition. Bye, bye Pre.

sounds like they are rushing it into the market to beat the new iphone revision to the punch. they might end up getting into the same situation as the blackberry storm, with their rush to beat the christmas season.
it will be a very interesting summer.

@Keith,
Why do you assume the Pre will not play music or do video as well as an iPod touch?

I will wait until June to compare the Pre to the next generation iPhone.
I won’t have to suffer from buyers remorse then.
