Despite being accessible only to a select few for the time being, the official Google+ app for the iPhone will hit the App Store anytime soon — possibly before the service even goes public.

Just after Google+ opened to those with an invitation last week, an information page revealed an official iPhone app for the service was “coming soon.” Though we hadn’t anticipated it would arrive this soon.

One Google employee, Erica Joy, posted a message on her Google+ profile that confirms the new app is currently awaiting Apple’s approval:

For my iPhone using friends: the Google+ iPhone app has been submitted to the App store (no not today, sometime prior to today) and is awaiting approval.

We can never be certain how long it will take Apple to approve an app; while some have flown through the approval process in days, others have taken months to appear in the App Store. While you await its release, however, I’d like to recommend the Google+ web app located at m.plus.google.com, which I think does the job very well.
