Journalists Cover Microsoft, Using Macs

It’s not an easy time for Microsoft — with Steve Ballmer having to field questions about being “buffoons” and an “evil empire”  at the shareholder’s meeting (.doc) — so when they get together “the world’s most influential technology pundits and online writers” (nb: we weren’t invited) for Mobius to discuss super-secret mobile tech you’d think [...]

Review: Voices Is Today’s Best Thing Ever, Grab It Now While It’s Cheap

New on the App Store is Voices from the clever folk at Tap Tap Tap. You can guess what it does.

Open it up, pick a silly voice. Helium is pretty silly. A microphone appears and the app even clears your throat for you (try it, you’ll see what I mean). Now speak your brains, and [...]

Review: Sony Walkman S540 Series Video MP3 Player

Press releases, you will hardly be surprised to hear, are rarely very interesting. But one arrived in my inbox a couple of weeks ago that made me double-take.
“Sony’s S Series Walkman,” it chattered, “is a serious challenger to the iPod Nano.” Gosh, really? Perhaps the Cult had better have a look at one, then, despite [...]

Night Vision Shows the Unseen iPhone

Cult reader Flunky Carter shares this interesting survey of his iPhone shot using a webcam’s Night Vision.

Small cracks and stress fractures he says are not visible to the naked eye under normal lighting conditions show Apple’s mobile device takes significant wear and tear in the real world.

Thanks FC!

All I see are a bunch of scratches. What does it matter anyway as long as they do not cause a problem with the function of the phone. Every motorola phone that I have ever had shows noticeable cracks after a year of use but it never caused a problem so I didn’t worry about it. My iphone has weathered much better than any other mobile phone that I have owned. Some of you need to find more productive ways to spend your leisure time!

    This was certainly dumb.

Seriously? of course its going to be scratched.

What did you think it was made up of some kind of alien material that is scratch resistant?

buy a protector if you need one… sheesh…

    Get an InvisibleShield, duffus!

and this proves what exactly? i suspect that if you do this with any portable device with a screen you’ll get the same result.

Aww come on! It took me like 1 minute and half to film, another 2 minutes to edit in iMovie, and another 2 minutes to upload. If I didn’t have five minutes to dedicate to silly sleuthing as I was reviewing a night vision camera, then I would be concerned about having not enough time on my hands to enjoy life.

Yes, I agree as well Cal, that my iPhone has weathered better than my other phones, but I could see the ugly damage all over it… On my iPhone, it’s practically non-existent, aside from some slight surface scratching, which made it all the more a WTF? moment when I viewed it under the night vision.

Plus, it isn’t everyday you can see through the iPhone and see it’s skeletal underpinnings, bolts, compartments etc…, aside from disassembling the phone, and that alone was pretty cool.

Apple made a calculated decision to not pursue the night vision goggle wearing crowd… that’s coming in the 4G model.

    And this is exceptional, how?
