Minimal Mac Offers Lessons In Minimalism

Makes you want to sing Smiths songs, doesn't it?

Here’s a blog after my own heart: Minimal Mac is devoted to keeping your Mac as simple as can be, something I strive to do as far as possible.

A few minutes browsing Minimal Mac shows me I’ve still got a long way to go. I thought my desktop was minimal:

…but it turns out that real purists wouldn’t care for all that junk in the Menu Bar. If you aspire to proper minimalism, you need to have a Menu Bar more like this:

Minimal Mac was born in a day (full story here) and is elegantly filled with empty desktops and contentless applications, such as this approach to using Mail, which I promise you is like nothing you’ve seen before.

All that said, it’s also important to consider the quote in this post:

“Striving for minimalism on your Mac is not about removing everything from your computer. It’s about getting rid of the fluff that distracts you from achieving peaceful productivity. Removing items from your dock or desktop for the sake of minimalism misses the point. Minimalism is a means to an end. The end is the opportunity to really enjoy using your Mac.”

Wise words indeed.

Your curator is Patrick Rhone, and if you share his love of keeping things as simple as possible, I urge you to send him your links.

Feel free to post links to your minimal desktops in the comments. There’ll be a prize for the most minimal. (NOTE: prize may be so minimal as to be non-existent).
