Microsoft Disavows Internet Explorer
8:57 pm, November 20th, 2005,

Microsoft’s MSN site suggests websurfers using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer for the Mac switch to another browser!
Fire up that dusty old copy of Explorer and — if you haven’t changed the default homepage — you’ll be greeted by a message at MSN that says:
“If you are using Internet Explorer for Mac, we recommend that you use another browser to have an optimal experience of MSN.”
Of course, Microsoft stopped updating Explorer in 2003, shortly after Apple released Safari.

it’s a shame, since i’m forced to use explorer to visit my college’s lotus quickplace site. does anyone know of another option, other than m$ explorer?

No worries.
All you need to do is get the Safari Debug menu.
Once done, you can tell Safari to act as IE when visiting sites. The secret handshake is made with the host and you can log in.

T’was strange but finding MSN all Jumbled on IE 5.2.3, on My G3 iMac, running Mac OS X(10.3.9/Panther), I ran Hotmail on Safari & on Opera, taking IE 5.2.3, & putting it in Trash.

One does NOT NEED IE 5.2.3, for good web usage.

Any chance anyone has the IE default URL handy? I’d like to see it for myself (without having to load the bugger

Sorry – just booted IE for Mac (first time in 12 months!), and discoverered that msn.com is the url as stated in the article.
What threw me was that the page looked fine in Firefox …
Interestingly,I used User Agent Switcher for FF and set it to IE for the mac, and the page was ugly with the warning again. Does that mean the site changes the code for the browser?
What would the site look like on IE for Mac if the UA wasn’t detected?
Could this be a M$ plot?

I would just like to hear just once, one time, that MS did something to fix there product and save thousands of there existing customers grief. Whereas, Mac’s software has always worked. No jumpers or bios to set, no patches to make, it just works. Thank you Macintosh.
