Opinion: MacBook, or iMac + iPad?

20100208-imacipad.jpg

The announcement of the iPad has done a lot of things: it’s stoked up excitement in the Mac using community, it’s got a bunch of developers feverishly coding exciting new stuff, and it’s got retailers and cell phone companies the world over drooling over the money they can make from it.
And it’s also somewhat upset [...]

In Depth: 30 Days with the Nexus One

It’s been a month since my review of Google’s “SuperPhone”, the Nexus One. Since that time, we’ve surfed, updated facebook, navigated, called, played endless hands of cribbage and even tried to freeze it to death on a trip to Dayton Ohio. Follow me after the jump to find out does the “SuperPhone” stand the [...]

Apple second only to Microsoft in cash and investments… and that’s about to change

Silicon Insider posted this interesting graph putting into perspective exactly how large Apple is, compared with the other big three tech companies out there. And it’s all about cash.
Essentially, Apple is the second most cash rich company out there, with a little under $39.8 billion in cash and short and long term securities to call [...]

Mac Cube Takes A Stand

Love this clear stand for the Mac Mini to make it look like a PowerMac G4 Cube. The only slight flaw in handiwork of Trademarklaser is the upside down Apple logo (due to the position of the optical reader) but an etched and painted acrylic cover that would set things straight is on its way. No word on price, but they are for sale.

    Dude, that’s a Mac Mini……

Um… that’s a stand for a Mac mini, not a PowerMac G4 Cube. This stand is, of course, is meant to emulate a Cube.

Please note that this is not the PowerMac G4 Cube but the current Mac Mini.

that’s not a cube, that’s a mac mini. c’mon people, know about what you write about, please?

Looks like a Mini to me, though.

It is certainly reminiscent of the “cube”, but this stand is for the “mini”, not the “cube” as the article states.
For the record, as old as it is..the Mac Cube housing looks cooler than this!

Rather than a pained acrylic cover, what would even cooler is a prism to invert the image!

Also, I was confused by the wording. It’s not really a cube, its really a mini spiffed up to bring back the appearance of the cube. Right?

I think they clearly knew it’s a stand that make a Mini look like a Cube. I believe the problem was in the WRITING, not in the thinking. They just didn’t write the sentence correctly.

Wow. This is why this site is no longer relevant…

I’m not sure if anyone has noticed, but I think that’s a Mac Mini. I could be totally wrong, but that’s just what it looks like.

Maybe I’m missing the point, but it doesn’t look as good as the G4 Cube or as a Mac Mini that’s has nothing done to it.

Even if you do think it looks good imagine it with the power and monitor cable sticking out.

I know this has been posted 7 times, but I thought that I should echo: IT’S A MINI! Oh man, that felt great.

Why not just pop the plastic cover out and turn it around??????

I imagine that this is probably not a good way to mount the mini – the vents are on the back, which in this configuration means that they’re on the bottom. Rather than expel heat out of the back normally, this little mini is probably getting pretty hot what with heat RISING and all. Remember, the original Cube had vents on the TOP.

It’s a pretty swanky stand, I have to admit, and the Mini looks nice in there. ;)

Almost as good as the G4 Cube it was made for. Got it commenters? He’s trying to say it was FOR a Cube, not that there’s a cube inside, although I can see how you guys jumped to that conclusion. :D

Sentence got cut, it is a Mini. Fixed now. Tx

Fail. Besides the mentioned ventilation issues and the fact the disc ejection mechanism is being stressed in that position, an Anti-Apple at the front?
A real Cube enclosure, with a mini’s guts filling it (well, just about one third of it)? Now that would look cool.

Oops – I should have said “SHE’S trying to say…” Sorry Nicole!

Hmm, strange. I thought Apple stopped making the cube.
How’d you get the Apple logo to be upside-down? That is cool!
