Journalists Cover Microsoft, Using Macs

It’s not an easy time for Microsoft — with Steve Ballmer having to field questions about being “buffoons” and an “evil empire”  at the shareholder’s meeting (.doc) — so when they get together “the world’s most influential technology pundits and online writers” (nb: we weren’t invited) for Mobius to discuss super-secret mobile tech you’d think [...]

Review: Voices Is Today’s Best Thing Ever, Grab It Now While It’s Cheap

New on the App Store is Voices from the clever folk at Tap Tap Tap. You can guess what it does.

Open it up, pick a silly voice. Helium is pretty silly. A microphone appears and the app even clears your throat for you (try it, you’ll see what I mean). Now speak your brains, and [...]

Review: Sony Walkman S540 Series Video MP3 Player

Press releases, you will hardly be surprised to hear, are rarely very interesting. But one arrived in my inbox a couple of weeks ago that made me double-take.
“Sony’s S Series Walkman,” it chattered, “is a serious challenger to the iPod Nano.” Gosh, really? Perhaps the Cult had better have a look at one, then, despite [...]

Five Fun Games in Time for Halloween, Part I: Whacking the Fundead, Screaming Around the Campfire, A Cursed Castle and More

Campfire Legends: The Hookman

This week’s selection from Mac Games and More include Halloween inspired games that will take you into the weekend. In the picks you’ll find a zombie invasion with ensuing battle, sweet treats that won’t give you any cavities, good ole fun whacking some light-hearted zombies and more. Be sure to check back here next Friday for Part II.

Campfire Legends: The HookmanCampfire Legends: The Hookman – Get ready to be frightened…and entertained all at once. Just in time for Halloween, Campfire Legends: The Hookman delivers a hidden objects, point and click adventure that will keep you at the edge of your seat, and you’ll love every minute of having the daylights scared out of you. Christine and her sweetie take a short trip for a romantic getaway at her parents’ cabin in the woods. Upon their arrival they find the cabin ransacked and their belongings and other items scattered every which way. As they try to return everything in order, the long, long night begins to reveal that someone is lurking about. Prepare yourself because you might hear a lot of screaming…coming from your own mouth! Plants vs. ZombiesPlants vs. Zombies – In a war between plants and zombies, you’d imagine that the little vegetation soldiers would not have a chance. Not so, not so! Well, not necessarily so. It’s up to you. The cutest zombies you’ve ever seen are heading towards your house to invade it, and you need to mulchify, confuse and weaken them before they reach your front door. Use your arsenal of pea shooters, cherry bombs, purple devourers and more to fight the undead. Watch out for the pole vaulting zombies and do play the mini game of Zombie bowling rolling potatoes. Download it

Princess Isabella A Witch’s CursePrincess Isabella A Witch’s Curse – Every single room in Princess Isabella’s castle is cursed. Not only that, but also everyone in the castle has been turned into mirrors, except Princess Isabella. She was lucky enough to be out while a wrathful witch snuck in and put an evil spell on the entire château. That’s a royal pain, so now you’re on a quest to reverse this most unfortunate series of events and release your friends and family from their glass menagerie. The game features marble shooters, logic puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, adventure quests, even a quiz – the game will keep you happily occupied wandering around this enormous regal home, solving, playing and ultimately defeating the wicked witch. Download it

Whack The DeadWhack The Dead (a free game) – Halloween is one of those holidays that I get really excited about, even though I now live in France where no one knows quite how to celebrate it like Americans do. That’s okay, though, because I’ll simply celebrate it with Halloween-themed games. Why not fête this year by whacking the dead? C’mon, it’s fun. This tiny, silly game on your desktop is perfect for a one minute game play of not only whacking zombies with shovels, but also with revolvers, shotguns and grenades. Beat my score of 1001! I dare you. Download it

Sweetopia Sweetopia – What is Halloween without candy? No candy corn, mini Snickers, cute bags of M&Ms? Halloween is not Halloween without candy, so I’ve included this excellent orb shooter that I’d say is one of the top five of its genre. Consider it a cross between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Zuma. Kate Gainsborough is re-opening her grandfather’s old candy factory, but runs into problems. One disturbing hurdle is the two sherbet sizzle candies if they should collide will blow up the building and destroy all of Kate’s hard work. Your job is to keep these two orbs away from each other by matching three or more like color candies to pop them with sphere launchers. Download it

What about a little RAMP CHAMP Halloween goodness. Man I seriously can’t quit playing that game… worth every penny!

(never mind the coming soon, not sure why they haven’t updated that yet… but you can get them now! And boy are they ghoulish!) :D

Campfire is well worth playing. Bought it after I played the demo. If you like silly seek’n'find/hidden object puzzles you’ll love it. Campfire has slightly better puzzle solving elements than most of these games, you basically have to gather parts then your left on your own to fathom out how to use them, with just the odd hint to help.

The atmosphere is very much in the vein of the splatter-house, shlock type horror flicks, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” with a hint of Evil Dead for laughs, that sort of thing!
