Cult of Mac Contest: Name Mystery Apple Object, Win T-shirt
8:12 am, October 12th, 2009, Nicole Martinelli

The first in a series of five t-shirt giveaways, correctly name this mystery Apple item and you could win a T-shirt.
Not just any T-shirt: choose from the Apple-inspired designs at might tees, which include the I Love Lisa we wrote about, a retro-style logo and Steve Jobs in typeface.
The tees are made with water-based eco inks screen printed on high quality tri-blend shirts (part organic cotton, part recycled rayon and polyester) and a $28-$36 value.
We’ll chose a winner at random from correct answers — please name object and model in the comments.
Contest ends midnight, October 14.

YAY! First to comment! It’s a MacBook.
Deathgleaner, on October 12th, 2009 at 8:16 am
To be more specific, it’s the side of a MacBook. The right side contains the vents, and the left side contains the monitor port. Then there’s the plastic bumper barely visible to the right
Deathgleaner, on October 12th, 2009 at 8:18 am
It’s an Apple iBook G4
Stefen, on October 12th, 2009 at 8:19 am
Looks like an iBook G3 500 or later to me.

Kyle Bradbury, on October 12th, 2009 at 8:47 am
it’s an early ibook, maybe late 2001 model.
Mike, on October 12th, 2009 at 8:51 am

Eric, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:01 am
Its a laptop, iBook actually. It would be one of the final iBook body styles, so either a G3 or G4 (looks more like a G3 to me).
Jon, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:01 am
It’s an iBook G3 w/ dual USB
Preston, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Boring T-Shirts -.-
Me, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:06 am
It’s an iBook dual USB. The first model that came with dual USB. So it would be a G3 600MHz possibly.
Karl, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:07 am
The above comment is correct. This is an ibook G3. I’d guess it has a whopping 800 mhz processor and a beefy 256 MB of RAM.
Isaac, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:09 am
That would be an iBook G3!
Amy M, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:10 am
I’d say it’s an iBook G4…

definitely 12″ iBook G3 500 MHz… Display port and silver body give it away. It’s not a 700 MHz because those were all white bodies.
Jake Walter, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:22 am
It’s a Macbook
Jen, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:22 am
it’s an Apple iBook G3 900 (2003) (we see the left side) whit video (i think it’s DVI) and audio port. HO! I almost forgot we see the little reset button at the top of the audio output !
cheers

Premal Shah, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:29 am
It’s an iBook G3 14″ – the 14″ had the reset button next to the headphone jack.
JW., on October 12th, 2009 at 9:30 am
An early model iBook G4 the thing in the middle is a reset button to reset the PMU. I’m assuming that what is being asked.
Stacy WEbb, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:32 am
It’s one of 3
iBook (Dual USB)
iBook (Late 2001) or
iBook (14.1 LCD)
They were the models that had the iBook Power Management Unit (PMU) button near the headphone jack
rich, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:34 am
Typo meant to say iBook G3 not G4.
Stacy WEbb, on October 12th, 2009 at 9:34 am
It’s a white iBook G3. Because of that cute little reset button, it has to be either the iBook (Dual USB), iBook (Late 2001) or iBook (14.1 LCD).

DAN WILLIAMS, on October 12th, 2009 at 10:00 am
First series of Ice White iBook G3 (Dual USB, Late 2001 and iBook 14.1 LCD) were the only ones that had the reset above the audio port like that. Previously, on the original ibook it was located at the base of the display behind the power button. It was later gotten rid of entirely with the command + option + p + r keyboard reset.

That is 12″ iBook G3. Apple produced two very similar models.
The key distinguishing feature is the distance from the vent slots to the bottom rubber pad on the lower-left side of the image. If the pic was cropped any more and the pad not shown, it would be impossible to distinguish from several larger iBook models introduced later.

Early “dual usb” iBook G3. Probably 500Mhz from early 2001. The case is still translucent, the video output is VGA and there is a reset button.

probably been guessed already, but its an ibook g3 second gen “dual usb” circa 2001. Almost bought one from a guy for 90 bucks, but went with a used DS lite instead…

Definitely an iBook G3 “dual usb”/Late 2001/14.1 LCD.
Tucker, on October 13th, 2009 at 1:43 am
Apple KBase article support.apple.com/ kb/HT1431 identifies these computers;
iBook (Dual USB), iBook (Late 2001) and iBook (14.1 LCD), as the ones that have a dedicated PMU reset buttons. the picture shows the side of an iBook with a PMU reset button so it has to be an iBook (Dual USB), an iBook (Late 2001) or an iBook (14.1 LCD).

‘Tis a iBook for sure. Either a Dual USB running 500 MHz, a Late 2001 running either 500 MHz or 600 MHz, or a 14.1 LCD running 600 MHz. Alas when I got my first iBook it was a 16 VRAM and they did away with the reset button starting with that model.
