Security Expert: “Mac OS X Is Safer, But Less Secure”

20100319-ipwned.jpg

Tech site H-Online has an interesting story today, quoting security expert Charlie Miller about his forthcoming talk at the CanSecWest conference next week.
He says OS X is full of security holes. There are lots more than in Windows, he claims.
And yet: OS X is a safer system to use. Why? Because, in the words [...]

Apple Devotes Entire Home Page To Jerome York Obituary

20100318-york.jpg

If ever you needed a sign that Apple was a different kind of technology company, this is it.
What other computer manufacturer would remove its top-selling, hype-inducing, industry-altering new product from the prime spot on its website home page, and replace it with an obituary to an investor?
This is one of those “Here’s to the [...]

Fake Steve creator Dan Lyons just signed a deal to bring Steve Jobs to another small screen near you.

Cult of Mac Caption Contest: What’s Bill Saying?

Billgatescaption

Gizmodo has a fairly long interview with departing Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates in the wake of his final CES keynote. There’s a clip of interest, where Gates defines what he believes the difference between Microsoft and Apple to be. An interesting perspective, up to a point, though I think he continues to underestimate Apple’s strength if he believes it’s all in “usability.” Apple has excelled in introducing new kinds of interfaces to the world, which is a very different kind of strength.

Still, I thought this still image was mildly humorous. Your name in lights if you come up with the best caption! Post them in the comments thread.

“Well you see the biggest difference, pardon the pun, *chuckles*, would be that Steve’s is this big.”

Honest, it’s this big. I swear!

“…and thats how big we need the hammers to crush the Vista gremlins.”

    “Please Sir, more…”

Vista missed it by this much.

So Jobs covered my ears but I could still hear him when he said to Woz, “We’re going to call it Windows.” So I stole the name, too. Turns out what he actually said was, “this guy’s software blows.” Well who’s software blows, now, eh Jobsy? Oh. Wait.

“… and you go through the enchanted forest…”

    Sing with me kiddies…
The wheels on the bus are falling off, clap to the beat, falling off, falling off.
The billionaire is getting off, getting off, etc.

So I said “roll it out anyway and if it turns out to be rubbish, I’ll quit my job”…

“In about one year our market share will be more like this. While Apple will be off the charts. They will have the ‘Richness’ that I’m always blathering about. Still, what do I care, I’m out. Let Balmer drive this puppy into the ground…..*snort*….douche.”

My Zune is about this big, small enough to fit in my briefcase….

*chuckle* “And they said it was micro soft. It’s really about *this long* soft.”

No, I am this big, Steve is bigger!

“You’d think with a name like Vista that it would have expansive capabilities. However, I’ve been told that usability is really only about *this big*. Of course, *embarrassed grin* it’s still better than Windows Me.”

“…and this is how much WE care about “usability”…”

“….and heres how much of our market share actually LIKE Windows. As you can see it’s a very small amount…”

“Sure, Steve’s OS may be better than mine, but my penis is this much bigger than his. Size matters, Stevie, sorry.”

You DO know how Microsoft got its name don’t you?

Well it was back in the mid 70s and we were desperately trying to come up with a name and I was standing in the shower and looked down and suddenly a name for the company came to me.

We are narrowing the gap. And I believe in 2008 Zune will replace the iPod!

    “It’s a series of tubes”

Two roads diverged in the wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

The iPhone has nothing on Microsoft’s newest user interface: we call it the “multi-clapper.” Not only can you “clap-on” and “clap-off” but you can also clap “ctrl-alt-delete”!

“And i figure if I hold my hands like this while I’m talking, it’ll be a lot of fun for people to caption this with adolescent and sophomoric penis jokes.”
