It’s not an easy time for Microsoft — with Steve Ballmer having to field questions about being “buffoons” and an “evil empire”  at the shareholder’s meeting (.doc) — so when they get together “the world’s most influential technology pundits and online writers” (nb: we weren’t invited) for Mobius to discuss super-secret mobile tech you’d think [...]

Review: Voices Is Today’s Best Thing Ever, Grab It Now While It’s Cheap

New on the App Store is Voices from the clever folk at Tap Tap Tap. You can guess what it does.

Open it up, pick a silly voice. Helium is pretty silly. A microphone appears and the app even clears your throat for you (try it, you’ll see what I mean). Now speak your brains, and [...]

Review: Sony Walkman S540 Series Video MP3 Player

Press releases, you will hardly be surprised to hear, are rarely very interesting. But one arrived in my inbox a couple of weeks ago that made me double-take.
“Sony’s S Series Walkman,” it chattered, “is a serious challenger to the iPod Nano.” Gosh, really? Perhaps the Cult had better have a look at one, then, despite [...]

Corporate Adoption of Macs Doubles To 68 Percent

Nearly 70 percent of companies say they will permit employees to use Macs in the workplace – double the number just 8 months ago, a survey found.

Macs “could very well represent a viable alternative to PCs” in companies, Laura DiDio, principal analyst of the Boston-based Information Technology Intelligence Corporation.

A survey of businesses found the top reason was the “consumerization of IT,” followed by the increased availability of Windows applications through Boot Camp and other virtualization.

Companies suggesting they will bring Macs into the workplace within the next 12 months is twice that found in a survey conducted eight months ago.

Other findings from the survey of 700 companies:

  • – Half see the iPhone as an alternative to RIM.
  • – 70 percent view Mac OS X security as “excellent” or “very good.”
  • – 82 percent said OS X reliability was either “excellent” or “very good.”
  • – Four out of five companies already have Macs in the workplace.
  • Although the push by employees familiar with Macs is having greater traction with IT managers, DiDio said Apple needs to provide better enterprise support.

Apple was surprised by the widening adoption of Macs within companies. Asked how they plan to respond, the Cupertino, Calif.-based computer company said they let “consumers evangelize for us,” the analyst said.

Jesus talk about spin, I haven’t seen a more misleading title in ages.

Coming from an office with hundreds of systems running non-platform specific software, most businesses will get whatever is the biggest bang for their buck, which is why we’re running Dells(and custom-builts) with Windows and Linux on them.
If there’s no substantial reason to pay a premium for a Mac, they’re not going to sell that well to businesses.

“Corporate Adoption of Macs Doubles To 68 Percent”

Replace Adoption with Acceptance and the title isn’t a load of crap.
