Security Expert: “Mac OS X Is Safer, But Less Secure”

20100319-ipwned.jpg

Tech site H-Online has an interesting story today, quoting security expert Charlie Miller about his forthcoming talk at the CanSecWest conference next week.
He says OS X is full of security holes. There are lots more than in Windows, he claims.
And yet: OS X is a safer system to use. Why? Because, in the words [...]

Apple Devotes Entire Home Page To Jerome York Obituary

20100318-york.jpg

If ever you needed a sign that Apple was a different kind of technology company, this is it.
What other computer manufacturer would remove its top-selling, hype-inducing, industry-altering new product from the prime spot on its website home page, and replace it with an obituary to an investor?
This is one of those “Here’s to the [...]

Cook Book? Frying Eggs on a MacBook Pro

Doubt I’ll be making lunch on my MacBook anytime soon, but its ongoing overheating and fan problems have made me wonder whether the rumors they get hot enough to cook on are true.

Wonder no more: flickr user Digital Monk tossed a little egg yolk on his MacBook Pro and in 10 minutes, voilà, cooked it. (Unless it’s an early April Fool’s joke…)

He says:

“I’ve read in more than one instance that you can cook an egg on a Macbook pro. Of course, whoever was saying that was using it as a metaphor to explain how hot these laptops can really get. I have always nodded my head in agreement that mbp’s heating problem is something Apple is not taking seriously (Do you hear us Apple? Grrrr!). Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fantastic machine, far superior than the laptops that run Window or what have you. But it does have it’s own share of drawbacks.

Today I decided to see for myself if you could really cook an egg on a Macbook pro! So I ended up placing some yolk on my MBP. And it didn’t take more than 10 minutes to find out if MBP is also a cooking machine!  Above are the results.. I did not actually taste the yolk, but it was cooked alright!”

Random piece of knowledge: Egg yolk coagulates at 65° to 70°C (149°-158°F).

I wouldn’t try to boil boil water for a cup of tea on my MBP – but maybe keep the tea warm? Placing a cup of tea on my MBP, does however not seem like the smartest thing to do.

Another reason NOT to buy a Mac!

Not surprising. My temp gauge on my MBP 17″ (previous model, not current) is typically 140 degrees or higher

Bottom left-hand corner…exactly. That’s where mine tends to heat up the most, which is a bit of an inconvenience since that is where my left hand rests while typing.

Yea, mine gets too hot to touch for more than a 2-3 seconds. I really don’t know what to do about it…

I´m gonna try out a Rib-Eye Steak for Dinner ;)

I’m not denying this could work. But isn’t that just a small sample of egg. I want to see someone crack a full egg on that bad boy to see what happens. Just so long as it isn’t my laptop. Really though the pro level has run hot since the titanium came back in 01. So this isn’t really a new issue. just unresloved

I’ve not had that part of my MBP heat up beyond “warm” but nothing to move my hand over. The upper left hand side around the ESC key and power port I could boil water under heavy use. Very hot and not leaving my hand anywhere near that area.

I have seen a few threads on various Mac related forums stating the left wrist rest area is very hot. I think I would be returning mine to Apple if this happens.

The new Unibodys don’t heat up like this. Of course that was not mentioned because it wouldn’t be good for page views…hey I hear LCD’s used to be really expensive. Maybe you should run a story on $1500 17″ LCDs…

This is an outstanding feature! If the new TurboChef ovens at Starbucks are on-the-blink, I can step in and warm the sandwiches with my laptop. Perfect!

Dont buy a Mac .. oh That guy is from My country Nepal
