About the Book

Two years ago Apple replaced my MacBook with a brand new model – free of charge. The body of my MacBook kept cracking; it was defective. I had already had it repaired twice, but the cracking kept coming back. I did my research; I understood the process; I knew my rights; and I knew exactly what to say. It took some patience, but Apple replaced my MacBook with a newer, better model. I was ecstatic.

I am sharing with you everything I learned about getting what you want from Apple. It’s a little known secret, but you and you alone have the ability to make Apple bend over backwards for you. The onus, however, is on you, the consumer, to make it happen. It’s your job to be an informed and proactive consumer — an advocate for your own interests and rights.

This may seem to be a daunting responsibility; after all, consumer protection is a complicated topic. Volumes have been written about it; local and national organizations are laboriously involved in the legal, commercial, and social realms pertinent to consumer issues; professionals, such as writers and attorneys, make careers advocating consumer rights. But, as I have learned, it doesn’t always have to be so difficult.

Sometimes it requires a bit more finesse, argument, or deliberation to achieve the best result. Sometimes you need to do your research and be prepared to stand up for your rights. These are the situations where being an informed and proactive consumer will mean the difference between paying $500 for an out of warranty repair for your existing MacBook and a free and brand new replacement MacBook Pro.

Whether you are choosing your first Mac or trying to get an old one repaired or replaced, Buying and Owning a Mac: Secrets Apple Doesn’t Want You to Know is your insider’s guide to Mac ownership. It will lead you through the life of your Mac from purchase to its eventual disposal, revealing and discussing the core issues and concerns every Mac owner needs to know about. Do you need help selecting the best Mac for you? Are you unhappy with a recent purchase? Is your Mac defective; or, worse yet, is it a lemon?

Written by Jonathan Zschau, Esq., a lawyer from Boston, Massachusetts, lifelong Mac enthusiast, and contributing writer for CultofMac.com, Buying and Owning a Mac: Secrets Apple Doesn’t Want You to Know is an insightful, practical, and easily understood survey on how to take charge of your Mac. It’s your guide to making it happen; it’s your guide to getting what you deserve; it’s your guide to ensuring that your experience with your Mac is a happy and enduring one.
