The company that helps build the Kindle reportedly is expanding their office in Cupertino, Calif. But Lab126 is unlikely to get a congratulatory fruit basket from their rival neighbor Apple.

Lab126 is renting “lots” of additional Cupertino office space, a general partner at a tech investment firm told Twitter followers over the weekend. The comments by Dana Stalder come amid talk the Internet retailer is preparing a “family” of tablets to rival the iPad.

Another Kindle supplier may be preparing for a new Amazon product. San Jose, Calif.-based Triquint Semiconductor Inc., also increased its office space, according to local reports. Triquint makes radio components for the Kindle, as well as Apple’s iPhone and iPad.

Earlier today, we reported a new rumor that Amazon was preparing several Kindle devices to take on the iPad. The Android-powered devices could borrow display technology used by the One Laptop Per Child Foundation.
