Journalists Cover Microsoft, Using Macs

It’s not an easy time for Microsoft — with Steve Ballmer having to field questions about being “buffoons” and an “evil empire”  at the shareholder’s meeting (.doc) — so when they get together “the world’s most influential technology pundits and online writers” (nb: we weren’t invited) for Mobius to discuss super-secret mobile tech you’d think [...]

Review: Voices Is Today’s Best Thing Ever, Grab It Now While It’s Cheap

New on the App Store is Voices from the clever folk at Tap Tap Tap. You can guess what it does.

Open it up, pick a silly voice. Helium is pretty silly. A microphone appears and the app even clears your throat for you (try it, you’ll see what I mean). Now speak your brains, and [...]

Review: Sony Walkman S540 Series Video MP3 Player

Press releases, you will hardly be surprised to hear, are rarely very interesting. But one arrived in my inbox a couple of weeks ago that made me double-take.
“Sony’s S Series Walkman,” it chattered, “is a serious challenger to the iPod Nano.” Gosh, really? Perhaps the Cult had better have a look at one, then, despite [...]

Apple Concepts: Touch Pad, Mac mini, Mac touch

Here’s an interesting concept for an Apple product by San Francisco artist Benjamin Harvey.

From his artist’s notes: “instead of creating a full-fledged touch-capable Mac, I devised a touch input device that would be wirelessly paired to any Mac on your local network. the most ideal of situations would be to pair it with my redesigned version of the Mac mini, which doesn’t come packaged with peripherals…like a giant iPod touch, the TouchPad supports multi-touch, an on-screen keyboard, and some streamlined OSX interface adjustments optimized for media, document processing, web browsing, and instant messaging. there’s an iSight built in for iChat and Photo Booth that allows you to touch the screen to manipulate photos.

Here’s the first touchscreen Mac. Harvey says, “I designed the product from all angles (the back is absent from this page) and set it up on a layout typical to apple.com. Down below there’s also a sloppily thrown together iPhone ][ in a (PRODUCT)RED advert and spliced into Steve Jobs’ hand.”

    What are those antenna-like guys?

    They’re the side views.

Finally! A product for all 167 people interested in tablet computing. Personally I am waiting for a giant sized MacBook Pro. Have you ever seen a giant try to type on a 17″ MBP? It’s not pretty (lots of typos) I’m sure there are at least 167 giants in the world who would buy a 37″ Macbook Pro.

Ok, I am in love. This is the coolest concept art ever. I just wish it was real. His mactouch concept art is pretty cool aswell, worth checking out…
