What’s Next For the iPad? A Tabletop iPad, According to Xerox PARC Circa 1991

Way back in 1991, just as Apple was transitioning from 68k to PowerPC chips, the braniacs at Xerox PARC were predicting it’s entire iPod, iPhone and iPad strategy. And next up for the iPad is a blackboard-sized device.
Nearly 20 years ago, just as personal desktop computers were taking off, researchers at Xerox started thinking about [...]

Apple Apologizes for MobileMe Rollout

mobileme_sm.pngApple is extending the subscriptions of its current MobileMe customers for 30 days at no charge, according to an email sent by the company today.

“The .Mac to MobileMe transition was a lot rockier than we had hoped but everything is now up and running,” Apple spokesman, Bill Evans, told Macworld. “We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge.”

MobileMe customers should see the extension reflected in their accounts “within the next few weeks,” according to Apple’s email.

    Completely awesome!

I have an issue with the long-delayed web component of MobileMe – it doesn’t work on IE6, which is what I use at work. At home I can access the web apps all I want, but I can also just use the real apps. Still, what the hell, a free month ain’t hay.

Thanks for the extra 30 days but things are far from “up and running”. I keep getting error messages that the size of my iDisk needs to be adjusted and that I cant delete certain files. I dont know whats going on. I’ve able to get my email now but not directly throught the MobileMe site. Pretty messy all the way around. When will all this be fixed? Its been a week now.

Apple tried to do too much at once. The hook up for the new phone was a disaster, update the existing phones (My phone didn’t work for over 4 hours. I was stunned when a friend got through and he was the first and last one for hours) the updating continued after that call.

The final insult though was when I decided to see what MobileMe (surely the stupidest name in tech history) would be like on my iPhone. In the blink of an eye ALL was gone. All contacts and my calendar. I was stunned. It took over two hours, a friend on my desktop handholding so to speak to get my phone where it had been. Clearly this was not ready for prime time. 30 free days does not make up for days with virtually no ability to receive or send mail. In fact yesterday I tried to attach a photo and it started uploading, NOT attaching – it never finished. I am through with this service. Come back to us, hat in hand when they have it right.
