Getting photos from your friends can be a hassle, but Facebook’s Moments app lets you do just that with a private area where everyone can send their photos from events. Think of it as a private photo album that all of your friends are invited to.

Videos are next, as Facebook’s Moments just got updated in the App store, adding a way to add your videos to existing moments, or creating new ones just for video.

While other services (including Apple’s iCloud Photo Sharing) offer similar features, plenty of folks are choosing Moments–it just hit 400 million shared photos altogether.

Moments also added new uploading settings, one of which lets you specify Wi-Fi as your preferred upload option (avoiding using up your cellular data cap). There’s also a better way to view the photos and videos within each moment as a collage.

The app allows you and your friends to add all your photos from a specific event into “moments,” which are like private photo albums for just the people you add to it. Everyone can add their photos–and now videos–from a specific event to Moments, and everyone in the group will see them. The media is organized by who’s in the photos as well as by date, so you can quickly see which photos you or your secret crush are in at a glance.

Once you’ve found photos and videos you like, you can share them out to any social network, including Facebook, of course, or just save them to your camera roll.

Interested? Grab the free Moments app from iTunes now and start getting the whole story in pictures and video from you and your friends.
