Oh no, our feelings! Why are swans so cruel?

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a game that looked as simultaneously adorable and mysterious as Paws, but here it is.

The upcoming title, which will drop on both Mac and PC March 24, puts you in the role of a sweet, lost lynx cub trying to find its way back home. And that sounds really sad, but the graphics in today’s announcement trailer are so charming that we could probably power through the pain.

Check it out below.

Paws takes place in developer Might and Delight‘s Shelter series. The first entry had you controlling a mother badger protecting her young, and the second one had a similar premise, but you were playing as an adult lynx.

As for where the new game fits in with all of this, the team sees it as an opportunity to throw the series into a slightly new direction.

Paws allows us to present a world unlike any before seen in the series,” Might and Delight head Anders Westin said in a press release. “This isn’t Shelter 2. This is a big, scary world as viewed through the eyes of a little cub.”

The Shelter series’ art style reminds us a lot of the one developer Media Molecule used for its PlayStation 4 and Vita title Tearaway. Those games take place in a completely paper world complete with tears and creases. Shelter‘s environment looks similarly hand-crafted, but it feels more like a painting.

The first games are currently available for Mac and PC via Steam. Sheltered costs $9.99, and the sequel goes for $14.99. We don’t have any pricing details on Paws yet, but we’re looking forward to exploring — and surviving — its world in a couple months.
