Re-create The Golden Age of Silent Movies [Review]

Silent Film Director is another app to add to the amusing-video-effects list, but this one’s worth investigating.

Put simply, it lets you make silent films out of your video clips. Your pristine original footage is transformed into a scratchy, badly-synced, speeded-up copy straight out of the heyday of silent cinema.

There are alternative filters, such as “70s home movie” if you want to bring things a little more up-to-date.

The basic version (price: two bucks) is quite nice, with several video filters and a decent selection of plinky-plonky piano soundtracks. But I think the Pro upgrade (costs you an extra dollar) is worth going for, because it adds some very useful extras, like combining several clips into one, edit transitions, and (my fave) text title cards. Seriously, a silent movie isn’t a silent movie without some funny text title cards. In my opinion.

There’s a Show Time! button in the app, which connects you to lots of Silent Film Director examples on YouTube. Plenty of inspiration to get you started, if your mind’s blank.

And… Action!
