An Apple job listing for a “Carrier Engineer” located near the Sprint headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri, has sparked speculation that Sprint could soon be the third U.S. carrier to adopt the iPhone.

Posted on April 2nd and first discovered by Stop it, AT&T, the job listing is for someone who will work closely with carriers to “track down issues.”

Member of the Carrier Engineering team that supports taking products through technical approval at the carriers. A Carrier Engineer team is responsible for day-to-day technical interactions with the one or more carriers to track down issues reported by the carrier, assist the carrier with testing they might be conducting and working with program management, software development and test teams to get products approved by the carriers.

What’s interesting about this job posting is its location: Kansas City isn’t where Apple employees are typically based, and suggests the new recruit could be working closely with Sprint, which has its headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas.

Peter Misek, an analyst with Jeffries & Company, reported last week that Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone will be called the ‘iPhone 4S’, will boast HSPA+ speeds and will support both Sprint and T-Mobile.

Since Stop it, AT&T first published this job listing, Apple has changed the location back to Cupertino, California, where its headquarters are located.
