iPod Touch Racing Wheel a Little Much?

small_hama-iphone-wheel-cebit_1910.jpg

If Apple’s mobile handsets are destined to become world-class gaming devices, one supposes this kind of thing is to be expected. Somehow, though, the Racing Wheel for iPod Touch showcased by Hama at CeBIT09 seems over the line, doesn’t it?

Then again, I’m not a gamer, so maybe I’m just driving outside my engine qualification.

How about it Cult gamers?

I wouldn’t kick it out of be for eating crackers…if you know what I mean! That makes no sense whatsoever!! :D

Anyways, I don’t think I’d ever buy it, but I’m not that big of a gamer either so my opinion needs to be taken with a grain of NaCl.

As a gamer I do think this is a bit much. Couldn’t they have gone with an iPhone holder that just had two curved ‘bars’ coming out the sides, sort of like the wheels available for the Wiimote?

It’s also very, very ugly. Given that Apple products are often focused on good design principles, I feel this clashes pretty badly with the phone itself.

    My 2c.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t stand commercials of any sort anymore. Anybody else feel this way?

It looks like it was designed on a Windows machine. They should’ve made the center have a piece that rotated 90Ëš instead of making the user pop the iPod Touch in and out to switch views.

Apple allows ludicrous accessories like this but they won’t permit an external keyboard?

Holy! THAT IS AWESOME! A LITTLE TOO MUCH? CERTAINLY NOT!

I think it would probably work much better than the wii wheel, considering how much more accurate the accelerometer in the iPhone is.

How about the guy holding the iphone wearing a Rolex. I bet it’s a Submariner.

I’d hardly call it a little much. The design looks like the absolute least thought you could do to pull this off. They’d benefit if they paused a moment to consider minimalism and functionality first. I don’t understand why this would be implemented as anything other than a wheel so that removing (or rotating a center piece) would be entirely unnecessary.
