‘One More Thing…’ Special Event Not About PowerBooks, Power Macs

The big flaw in ThinkSecret’s fun-spoiling story that next week’s special event will about PowerBooks and Power Macs, is that Apple doesn’t hold special media events for these kind of upgrades.

Incremental upgrades of existing products are usually ushered in with a press release, or a Macworld mention at best.

Oh, and now ThinkSecret’s saying it is about the iPod, but not the video iPod. New iPod–but not video–on next week’s itinerary.

Sorry, but I’m not convinced.

Here is my thoughts on this whole iPod video…

    1) You can download music videos from iTunes

    2) The free videos that you can watch on iTunes music store? Well they haven’t updated those in weeks! Actually since the iPod Nano came out. Are they holding back so they can push a crazy amount of videos for next week?

3)Steve Jobs said “Its not plausible..” He’s not very good at lying and when he says it isnt coming.. it is.

    4) “One more thing…” famous line he uses to usher in a new product… it usually is ONE thing. Why would they have such a media event about new powerbooks?

I’m not buying the whole “another ipod” from thinksecret… first what the hell can they do now… the iPodMicrocosm?

They all have color screens… they all are photo ready…

And if it isnt the iPod Video? Well i am even more excited for that…

I think a PowerBook and Power Mac update may be mentioned or coincide with the announcement of some focal point product, however I’m skeptical of a video iPod. I currently own a PSP and the novelty of watching videos on a small screen is just that, a novelty. While Sony has had considerable success with the UMD format and an admirable start on distribution, the fact remains that it is a tangible medium.

I mean whens the last time you were over at a friends house and said or thought, “Oh there’s a great movie I want you to see, too bad I don’t have it on me.” And, even if that does arise odds are you can watch it on pay-per-view with a DVR or rent it for a few dollars at your local video store. No one is going to want to go sit at their computer and download a movie for 30 minutes (even if you have broadband).

As for music videos, uhm most music videos aren’t very entertaining. I mean seriously, most of them are just the band standing somewhere “different” pretending to play their instruments. *snooze*

Anyhow, blogs looking great Leander! Nice work.
