Earlier reports this month tipped a January 19th launch for The Daily, Rupert Murdoch’s new iPad-only newspaper, but it looks like that launch will now be delayed thanks to problems implementing the new iOS subscription API meant to drive The Daily’s business model.
According to All Things D’s sources, Apple and News Corp have made a joint decision to push the launch back to give Cupertino’s engineers enough time to tweak the implementation of the new subscription service.
The new launch date for the Daily is very much up in the air, but apparently it will still launch in a matter of weeks.
Once the kinks in the iOS subscription API have been ironed out, not only should the Daily be able to launch, but other digital publications should be able to take advantage of the ability, which will not only allow them to more accurately predict their iOS audience, but should allow subscribers to have the latest content of their favorite publications automatically delivered to them when available.
