SNL alum Maya Rudolph will star in a half-hour comedy series on Apple TV+. The show is being created by Emmy winners Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard.
It’ll be part of a growing collection of comedies on Apple’s streaming video service.
Maya Rudolph brings decades of comedy experience
The upcoming series doesn’t yet have a name. Rudolph will star as Molly, a woman whose seemingly perfect life is upended after her husband leaves her with nothing but $87 billion, according to Apple.
Maya Rudolph joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2000, and she was also in Bridesmaids. She’s appeared in many sit-coms in a busy career, and done lots of voice acting as well.
Alan Yang produced Little America for Apple TV+. He also produced and Parks and Recreation. Matt Hubbard produced 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Superstore. The two men previously worked with Rudolph on the comedy Forever.
There is no word yet on when their latest project will appear on Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ boasts plenty of comedies
The series will join a slate of comedies already on Apple’s streaming service. Ted Lasso keeps pulling in awards, while Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet offers humor for gamers. The animated musical comedy series Central Park was recently renewed for a third season.
And there are plenty more in development, like a sci-fi comedy starring Andy Samberg or a parody of 1940s musicals called Schmigadoon that premieres summer of 2021.
