News that Apple TV+ bought the rights to Luck from Skydance Animation only broke Wednesday, and there’s already word that screen legend Jane Fonda will take a major role in the film.

Fonda will play The Dragon, according to Variety. A leaked description of the character says she’s the “exuberant CEO of Good Luck and undisputed luckiest ancient being in all the land. The Dragon is elegant, stylish and as persuasive as she is powerful. The only thing better than good luck is more good luck, so when bad luck starts to spin out of control, she must face her fears or risk losing good luck forever.”

In a career spanning decades, Jane Fonda has won two Academy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards and many more accolades. Despite being 83 years old, she’s currently starring with Lily Tomlin in Grace and Frankie on Netflix.

Apple TV+ gets Lucky

Luck is one of two films that Skydance Animation is creating for Apple’s streaming service. The movie is about a very unlucky girl who stumbles upon the magical world of good and bad luck. She teams up with various magical creatures to uncover a force even more powerful than luck.

The movie will be directed by Peggy Holmes. No other actors have been added to the cast yet, but production is just getting started. Luck is reportedly scheduled to premier February 18, 2022.

More children’s entertainment from Skydance Animation

Skydance Animation is also producing Spellbound for Apple’s streaming video service. This film is a musical about a girl who sets out to break the spell that has divided her kingdom.

And the production company is working on The Search for WondLa for Apple TV+. Based on a popular series of sci-fi books by Tony DiTerlizzi, the series will follow a girl looking for a family.
