Report: Apple to Open Store In PhiladelphiaApple is preparing to open its first store in Philadelphia, designed by the same firm responsible for its Fifth Avenue retail location in New York City, according to a Friday report.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company has signed a lease to move into a former restaurant situated to attract upscale shoppers and diners, reported the Macnn Website.

Although few details were provided, Apple would remake the Brasserie Perrier restaurant, using the Bohlin Cywinski Jackson architectural firm. The architects lead construction of many key Apple Stores in the U.S. and Great Britain.

Earlier this month, Apple was rejected for the third time in its attempt to open its first retail outlet in Washington, DC. Despite spending $13.4 million to buy a spot in the Georgetown area, Apple was spurned by the local neighborhood advisory board which said an Apple Store would “be too modern” for the 18th century shopping area.

    I don’t see what the bigdeal is ….

    Is it fair ta say that the NYC 5th Avenue “Cube” store’s the flagship?
    OK ….
    I pass by it a million times everyday — and I’ve bought stuff there, too.
    [Sometimes at 3 in the morning! lol]

    But when ya go in — it’s absolutely indistinguishable from any other electronics store.
    Carpet on the wall?
    Check.
    FlatScreens everywhere playing promos?
    Check.
    Lots of demo hardware ta play with?
    Check.

    If it wren’t for the preponderance of Apple stuff you’d think you were in BestBuy or wherever.

    What difference does it make how it *looks* or who the archetectual company is?

    This “gourmet boutique” nonsense is gonna backfire on Apple pretty soon
    if they don’t put an immediate halt to it.
