Head of Woz Explains Why Apple’s Named Apple

Ever mused on why Apple is Apple, and not, well, anything even vaguely computer related? Steve Wozniak’s disembodied head boils it down for you: it apparently comes from Steve Jobs’ days as a migrant fruit picker in the orchards of Oregon, and was chosen simply because it sounded “unique and interesting.”

The Head of Woz claims that he brought up Apple Records to Jobs at the time and that that decision “ended up costing” them, but otherwise, it appears that Jobs’ instincts were correct: it’s certainly hard to imagine Apple having the distinct and unique presence it has today if they had instead decided to name their company, say, Wozjobsoft.

    you do know steve really wasnt a “migrant fruit picker” right? haha.

    Steve spent time at a pretty radical commune that just happened to be on an apple orchard. I guess Woz didnt mention that part of the story.
