Last month, it was widely reported that Apple had reached yet another milestone with its App Store by chalking up it’s 300,000th app. The only problem with that number? It wasn’t true: while there were 300,000 apps in the App Store, a lot of those apps were inactive, meaning Apple hadn’t quite crossed the threshold for their milestone.

Still, time heals all, and now, Apple has actually racked up its 300,000th real app thanks to the average of 5,452 iPad apps and 12,218 iPhone apps uploaded each month.

Of those 300,000 apps, some interesting stats from the boys over at ReadWriteWeb: about 7% of all iOS apps are universal, with the average iPad app costing a fiver and the average iPhone app averaging out to a surprisingly large $4.03. Of the top 100 apps, the average iPad app costs $5.80, while the average iPhone app is just $2.14.

One thing’s for sure: the App Store is going to be at 400,000 apps even sooner than it jumped from 200,000 to 300,000… especially if you include the numbers that will come along with the forthcoming Mac App Store.

Considering what an accidental success the App Store was to begin with — remember when Steve Jobs insisted that the only user-installable software necessary on an iPhone were web apps — Cupertino’s certainly got a lot to show for developer enthusiasm for iOS. It’s only going to get bigger from here.
