Track Midterm Election Results On Your iPad

It’s doubtful as to whether any online apps will be able to match the gadgetry the pundits have on television to interpret election results, but one elegant graphic on the New York Times’ web site has been optimized for the iPad, and looks worthy of a bookmark.

That is its interactive 2010 election results map, which tracks House, Senate and Governors’ races.

Says The Times: “iPad: Our entire election results site has also been made touch-friendly for use on the iPad. On the Senate and governors maps, you’ll be able to pinch to zoom in to results at the county level, and the House maps will let you zoom in to see winners and gainers at the district level. It’s like having a television’s touch screen in your lap.”

The map is accessible directly on the web, as opposed to being part of the NYTimes’ iPad app.

NBC has a similar-looking map, but it’s not accessible on the iPad.

For its part, ABC News’ iPad app features a live election night television stream of its newscast with Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos.

Update: As of 6.15 pm EST, the Times’ map has already called/listed the election for Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind. for Indiana’s 5th District.
