There are some interesting surprises with the 16-inch MacBook Pro that you won’t find in Apple’s press release. So we’ve rounded up the big ones here so you don’t miss anything before buying.

Some of these things are nice surprises. But be warned that others will leave you a little disappointed.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is Apple’s most impressive laptop to date. It packs its sharpest Retina display (for a notebook), Intel’s latest processors, beefier graphics, and more.

Prices start at $2,399, and you can orders yours today. But there are some things you should know about Apple’s newest machine before you go splashing your cash.

Here are eight 16-inch MacBook Pro surprises.

8 things you should know about MacBook Pro

  1. Its 100Wh battery — the biggest Apple has packed into a notebook — is the largest the TSA will allow in carry-on bags.
  2. A battery of that size needs high-speed power, so Apple packs a new 96W USB-C Power Adapter in the box. This is also available to purchase separately for $79.
  3. Despite being a high-end machine with a high-end price tag, the 16-inch MacBook Pro packs a low-end 720p webcam — the same as that in previous models.
  4. There’s no upgrade for Wi-Fi, either. The machine has 802.11ac wireless connectivity, but not the 802.11ax technology (also known as Wi-Fi 6) found in iPhone 11.
  5. The new MacBook Pro’s larger, sharper display reaches a maximum brightness of 500 nits. That’s the same maximum offered by the previous 15-inch model.
  6. The new Magic Keyboard doesn’t just have new scissor switches and a physical escape key, but also 0.5mm more space in between its keys. Its Touch Bar also sits ever so slightly higher above the keyboard, and its arrow keys are arranged in an inverse-T shape, like they used to be.
  7. That keyboard is not covered by Apple’s Keyboard Service Program for MacBook. This suggests Apple is confident it has eliminated the problems faced by its butterfly switches.
  8. AppleCare+ for the 16-inch MacBook Pro is priced at $379. That’s the same price you’ll pay to cover a 15-inch model.
