Apple and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs today confirmed the availability of Health Records on iPhone for veterans across the United States and surrounding territories.

The feature promises to provide a better understanding of veterans’ health across multiple providers. They include Johns Hopkins and the University of California, San Diego.

The VA slowly starting rolling out Health Records to select veterans this summer. It gave patients of the Veterans Health Administration access to their data on iPhone for the very first time. Today, Apple and the VA make the program available to all. Apple’s Health Records initiative promises to deliver a “fuller, more comprehensive picture” of a user’s health.

Veterans can keep tabs on Health Records with iPhone

“Helping veterans gain a better understanding of their health is our chance to show our gratitude for their service,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “By working with the VA to offer Health Records on iPhone, we hope to help those who served have greater peace of mind that their health care is in good hands.”

The VA is the largest medical system in the United States, providing service to more than 9 million veterans across 1,243 facilities, Apple says. Today the VA joins more than 400 other health care providers that support Health Records on iPhone.

Apple puts veterans’ health data all in one place

For vets with iPhones, accessing Health Records proves simple. They simply need to sign into a participating provider’s patient portal in the iOS Health app. Veterans will find all their records in one place, including medications and lab results.

The continually updated records let patients view an all-in-one snapshot of their health profile whenever they need it. And, of course, Apple ensures the sensitive health data stays private and secure.

All Health Records data is encrypted and protected with the user’s iPhone passcode, Touch ID or Face ID
