References to an unreleased Sleep app for Apple Watch have been inadvertently leaked on the App Store. It’s further evidence of Apple’s plans to bring sleep tracking to its popular wearable.

We first heard of sleep tracking functionality for Apple Watch back in February. Reliable Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said Apple planned to deliver it by 2020 if testing is successful.

There were suggestions that the feature would debut last month with Apple Watch Series 5. Although that didn’t happen, there is mounting evidence that indicates it will be available soon.

Apple Watch Sleep app leaks

MacRumors has obtained an App Store screenshot for the Alarms app that references an unreleased Sleep app. “Set your bedtime and wake up in the Sleep app,” it reads.

This is the built-in Alarms app we’re referring to here, so the inadvertent leak comes from Apple itself. And it all but confirms a Sleep app is at least in development in Cupertino.

The app is expected to provide Watch wearers with overviews of their sleeping patterns. It could also offer bedtime reminders, silent alarms, sleep improvement suggestions, and more.

Sleep tracking evidence mounts up

The leak comes after other references to sleep tracking were uncovered in internal iOS 13 code. One string revealed that Apple refers to the feature as “Time in Bed tracking.”

“You can also track your sleep and get woken up silently by wearing your Watch to bed,” another string read. There were also suggestions of a dedicated Sleep watch face.

We’re no closer to finding out when sleep tracking will come to Apple Watch. But the evidence certainly hints at its ongoing development — and suggests we could see it soon.
