One of the iPhone XR’s best features is the battery life. Its successor will reportedly pack a slightly larger battery when its rolled out this fall.
An electronics industry news site out of South Korea says China’s Ameperx Technology Limited recently began mass production of a 3,110mAH battery for the second-generation iPhone XR.
The current iPhone XR battery runs on 2,942mAH. The 5 percent boost, according to a report from TheElec, would give the new phone the largest battery of any iPhone running on a single battery cell.
TheElec notes the iPhone X series is powered with an L-shaped battery that is two batteries fused together. The iPhone XR battery is I-shaped.
“Unlike in the past when it focused on optimizing its OS and AP system to improve battery time, Apple has recently been committed to beefing up overall capacity, as done by its rivals Samsung and Huawei,” the report said.
Apple recently launched an ad campaign touting the long-lasting battery of the iPhone XR, which has been Apple’s best seller in the U.S. since it launched last fall with the iPhone XS and XS Max.
The iPhone XR offers several features running on the XS handset is Apple’s budget iPhone at $749 (or $479 with trade-in).
Features for a revamped XR have started to leak out in advance of Apple’s September product launch.
The second-gen phone is expected to have a faster processor, a two-camera array on the back, an improved selfie camera, and possibly come in two new colors, green and lavender.
