$17 Turns Your New iPod Nano Into An iWatch

The moment Steve Jobs quipped about the new Nano’s perfect suitability as a time piece, we all all recognized the obvious accessory void that would quickly be filled: iPod Nano watch bands.

Here’s the first: a 22mm Maratac Nylon band that will slip through your nano’s clip and comes in matching colors for just $17.

The wisdom of tethering your headphones to your wrist is, of course, debatable, as is the necessity of charging your wristwatch once per day, but if you’re so inclined, it’s now just a Jackson away from being done.

I think everyone thought the same when the new Nano was unveiled, and even Steve Jobs hinted at the possibility to wear it as a watch… But this is the most ridiculous attempted rip-off in a long time.

17 bucks for a cheap, crappy wristband that goes through the clip of the Nano? Come on, look at the thing: the fabric, the buckle, the holes – the whole thing looks like came in a cereal box. no, thank you, but no.

Still missing: a plastic Casio-like armband in which you slip your iPod nano. That’s the loo I want for my iWatch.
Make that, and it’s gonna be my pointless purchase of 2010.

looks cool enough but unless the iPod supports Bluetooth headphones it seems useless. I don’t think people are going to mark out to you about how cool your iwatch is with headphones plugged into it.

17 bucks is rather steep for the band…

Wear it on your wrist when it’s a watch, when you play music, clip it to your shirt, the band becomes just a fun wristband. Done.

I am tempted to buy a Nano and use it as a watch, but that strap is horrible!

There’s a real watch that any minimalist Apple fanatic fan boy would be proud to wear. Save your money on the above cheap crap and buy a real watch.

If you don’t like the Maratac band shown, or think $17 is too much to pay, take a look at this competitor. http://ilovehandles.net/

Then purchase a 22mm watch band you like, and take your scissors to one side to accommodate the Nano’s clip.

Me, I’m not gonna buy one of these wrist Nano’s until they also can handle voice communication, like the long awaited Dick Tracy wristwatch.

The poster hescottbeats made a good point. If the Nano actually supported blue tooth the idea of using it as both a watch and a portable player would be a winner. As it is someone with a set of headphones plugged into their wrist would not only NOT work ergonomically but would also look ridiculous. If Apple ever did actually pursue something along the lines of what we have been discussing it would be a rather fun idea IMHO.
