Blogger Claims World Texting Record On iPhone 4 [Amazing Video!]

Blogger Brian Sweet of Gumball Tech claims to have beaten the world text-messaging record using the onscreen keyboard of his iPhone 4.

The record was recently set by a U.K. woman using a Samsung Galaxy S running the SWYPE keyboard. Melissa Thompson, 27, managed to swipe out the phrase: “the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human,” in just under 26 seconds. (Her feat is still being verified by Guinness).

Sweet claims to have thumbed out the same phrase in less than 22 seconds, besting the record by 4 seconds. “It’s not official,” says Sweet, “but it’s definitely better than what that woman recently achieved.”

If genuine, Sweet’s feat disproves the notion that the iPhone’s onscreen keyboard is slow. Typing on the iPhone has typically been characterized as slow compared to a physical keyboards, such as those on Blackberry devices.

    Where do you get an AT&T symbol like that? Jailbreak it sure but what emoji has the deathstar looking AT&T symbol? I wanna know cause I want it!

  • Lynch

    I CAN DO THAT

    Wow, definitely couldn’t do this on my iPhone 3G under iOS4 – the keyboard would still be reacting to the 2nd or 3rd letter at around 27 seconds… ;)

    Not a single autosuggestion pops up. That suggests to me this is fake.

    I’m not quite that fast, but I’m really really close. I actually had a texting competition with another iPhone user using landscape mode and a Blackberry user who didn’t think either of us would come close. I beat them both by a long shot. As long as you’re using dictionary words, the spelling correction and prediction is good enough that you can pretty much hit close to the letters you want and just keep moving if it’s wrong. I’m getting close to my keyboard typing speed.

    @John Brownlee

    What, the one popping up on the word “freshwater” doesn’t count?

    People complaining about typing on the iPhone. Seriously? I have no problem whatsoever typing on the iPhone. I type faster on that than I do on my Mac and WAY faster than on my Whackberry when I had one.

    @Pditty357 It’s the AT&T Carrier Logo for iPhone 4 from Cydia in the BigBoss repo.

    @John Brownlee Check again.

    @MisterK Nice! I just hope that you never reach my speed :).

    Have you ever tried iditdahtext or seen the tutorial video on here? I never thought twice about it until I saw the video for it. If you can get it down, you would probably be able to type faster than that without even looking.

    If genuine, Sweet’s feat disproves the notion that the iPhone’s onscreen keyboard is slow.

    Of course, it proves nothing of the kind. The fact that one highly trained/practiced guy can type fast on the iPhone keyboard is nice, but it says nothing whatsoever about whether 1) the iPhone keyboard is faster or slower than any other keyboard, or 2) whether the average user can attain any kind of speed on it. I personally could do text input faster on both a blackberry style keyboard and original Palm Graffiti than I can with the iPhone keyboard. By your logic, that must prove that the iPhone keyboard is slow.

    Who gives a crap? It’s typing! get out more!!!
