Life After Print: The Macintosh Way released as a Free eBook

Guy Kawasaki’s seminal book The Macintosh Way is a classic for technology marketers (“evangelists”) and Apple geeks alike.  It is fondly remembered from the Golden 68k Macintosh Era, and is used to this day as reference material for startup businesses and college courses.

The book went out of print several years ago, and Guy has been working since to get the rights back.  He has finally succeeded, and is making the digitized eBook available free to everyone for the asking.

The Macintosh Way has seen Apple and the Mac through many changes over its twenty year lifetime; to celebrate the re-release, Guy has also released this video detailing the book’s transformation from printed page to computer screen:

You can also read the book in the OfficeDrop iPad app.

Added bonus for this old Mac geek (and full disclosure): my own Vintage Mac Museum was used to film the opening of the video.  For a few enjoyable hours this spring the production team and I relived the Macintosh Way!  For more on filming the spot, see Vintage Macs Live Again.  Anyone up for Snood?

Ahhh, the glorious Evangelista Movement! The few, the proud, the ones that stood by the MacOS during the dark times when all the mongoloid hordes of Windows95 A-holes spat on us and told us that their beloved Windows was so much superior because 1) their OS ran lots of games and 2) their OS ran dozens more useless word processors, and 3) their OS boasted of having millions more viruses compared with only a paltry dozen that existed on our obscure MacOS!

Oh those were the glorious good old days of Revolutionary yore, only to come to a Final End when the Windows-loving mongoloid hordes finally triumphed with their secret weapon, the Glorious Windows Vista, which arrived just in time to finally put the Mac platform out of busi….. oh wait…. wrong ending.

On a more serious note… I suppose Steve Jobs and Apple have done absolutely nothing to acknowledge Guy Kawasaki’s role in strengthening the loyalty, enlisting converts (to the Mac), and evangelizing the Macintosh brand during the 1990s?

Not even a small “Oh and thanks Guy. You held the fort and rallied the troops during the 90s. Thanks for that.”

I was an Evangelista, back in the day. I’d never actually read Guy’s book though, and jumped at the chance to download it.

Unfortunately, the PDF version is nearly unreadable–the scan resolution was too low. I don’t know if this was an oversight, or designed to prevent anyone else from doing an OCR conversion to ePub.

I guess I’ll go check out the OfficeDrop app… *grumble* I hope it’s more readable. If not, it’s time to check out some used book stores I guess.

At any rate, Thanks Guy, for teaching us how to kick ass.

Charlietuna what are you ranting about?

The PDF version doesn’t work with iBooks and OfficeDrop is only free for 60 days. Guy, I know you’re better than this.

Jim (and others) – the PDF file shared yesterday was a low res copy that was posted accidentally; I forwarded your comment along and a higher res copy is now available to download from Guy’s site.
