Skype Access Temporarily Removed from Fring App

Skype Access Temporarily Removed from Fring App

Early today in Fring’s 3G Videochat App Is Must-Have for iPhone 4 we reported that the popular Fring app for iPhone was updated to include video chat over 3G (Apple’s FaceTime only works over Wi-Fi).

The immediate popularity of the app and how it interfaces to Skype video and voice calls has resulted in the removal of Skype support from the app. Fring wants to concentrate on Fring-to-Fring video calling so Skype support is being temporarily reduced until some system capacity issues can be addressed.

Fring’s official statement can be found on their website.

Fring and Skype Bicker, Kill Fring for iPhone 3G Video Chat Support

If you haven’t updated your Fring app on your iPhone 4 or in iTunes yet you should refrain from doing so. You may still be able to access Skype using the older version. The new version without Skype support is 3.3.0.9. If retaining the old version of Fring  still works with Skype for you please leave us a comment.

Really? I haven’t use skype a long time, and don’t know any latest news about it…

  • Blake

This sucks. All my other contacts I care to make video calls don’t have an Iphone4 or Android so they don’t have Fring. I talk to them with Skype. (plus they are overseas in another country).

I am not using the iPhone, but an Android (HTC EVO 4g), Skype support was removed from my Fring app as well. My contacts disappeared and it’s no longer in the add ons list (and I didn’t update the app today) I only noticed today when I went to call one of my friends overseas and I didn’t see their name.

I hope they add support very soon!

I am not surprised that Fring had capacity issues. I hope the problem is resolved ASAP, I have an Evo 4G and love using the Skype support on Fring.

I deleted the new version of fring from my iPhone 4 after reading this article. I then pulled the old version (downloaded in 2009) out of the trash can, reinstalled it on my iPhone 4 and skype is not available. Bummer!!

I have Fring installed on my Nokia N95, same situation Skype disappeared.

On behalf of all people who don’t have fancy smartphones, I would like to thank iPhone and Android users for ruining yet another app for the rest of us.

Damn ! I have iPhone 3g and 2g and I have updated my fring app ,but know i have noticed that fring doesn’t support skype . There is no option of skype in addons . I hope they solve this problem soon.

On the fmdate release of the new Fring version, I could video chat with another skype in a computer. Nie, same here guys, Fring has pull out Skype from there servers, and I didn’t receive nag notice from them.

  • hien

i like fring as it support skype and its more convenient than the skype application itself. Pls support skype asap. Without skype app, fring is non-sense for me!

  • jeeven

Damn how long is this gonna be? this sucks man.

  • djclay

I used a backed up copy of fring 2.1.0.8 still not showing skpe.

    O Well

  • HoMinek

I think, Fring without Skype is useless for most of Android users. Have HTC Desire and installed Fring only because access to Skype. Now it seems it is time to thanks to Fring developers and say goodbye.

  • ondrej

I could care less about video calls, but access to skype contacts and audio was what I installed fring for in the first place. Verizon stopped everyone else on the globe from having skype on their androids and now fring killed the only other way to access that. Marvellous, really.

As for video calls on the iPhone4, just let theiP4 owners use Facetime, but allow the rest of us to communicate with our families abroad!

Now I hate Verizon even if I never had the chance to do business with the company (not in US) and I am strongly disappointed in fring :-(

An alternative with skype support on android is nimbuzz. But nimbuzz doesn’t have SIP support on android.

I hope you will reactivate Skype soon because it was very useful on my Motorola Droid ! I am missing especially the Skype chat at the moment. :(

  • Hala

Ihope the problem is resolved ASAP

There was a day I loved Skype! For at least last 1 year I’m using Skype because I can get normal telephone number for it. I wish Fring would develop also distributing phone numbers, so we could forget skype

  • jeanwell

hey people..did you try the nimbuzz app
