Shuttlecocks Glide Onto The iPhone In Super Badminton 2010

Badminton hasn’t really caught on wildly here in the U.S. Still, if Super Badminton 2010‘s graphics are as good as its screenshots suggest, who cares about popularity. The game boasts “hyper-realistic physics” to complement the slick graphics as well as deep control options and details like being able to play on a wooden court and realistic badminton moves.

The game’ll set you back a moderately hefty $5 though, so those screenshots will have to do a considerable amount of persuading to anyone who isn’t a badminton nut.

Indeed, it looks great. Got it in front of me now. It looks great and has me wishing for a great game. The controls are pretty bad (I’ve seen the CPU make 1 successful smash) and the shuttle is choppy.

I think with some tweaks, it could be a great game, but it needs a LOT of tweaks. I played badminton on a couple of university teams in Japan and Canada and have played for years so when the physics are touted as realistic, I take interest. For the most part, they are pretty good. Net shots and drops look good, otherwise, clear, smash, etc., look a bit daft (think frying pan handle).

Could be great, but it isn’t.

I can say, without a doubt, that Super Badminton 2010 is the best badminton video game I’ve ever played. Then again, it’s the only badminton video game I’ve ever played. Still, Indian developer Rolocule has done a pretty excellent job on the game. I don’t know how much it actually relates to the real life game (I don’t think I’ve ever played a whole real life game before), but the controls are responsive, the graphics are just about right for the iPhone, and the back and forth tennis-like gameplay is a lot of fun.
