The surprisingly addictive new Pokémon game, starring everyone’s favorite fish Pokémon Magikarp, is just one of the great titles we’ve picked out for this week’s “Awesome Apps” roundup.

We’ve also got a tremendous free video downloading tool, a SEGA classic gone free, and a slate of productivity apps that now let you easily drag and drop content between them on your iPad.

Check out our picks below. There’s really no better way to spend the middle day of the Memorial Day weekend!

Magikarp Jump

The Pokémon Company launched its latest game on iOS last week, and while it’s got no hope of being as big as Pokémon GO, it’s still worth checking out if you’re a fan.

Based around Magikarp, one of the original 151 Pokémon species, Magikarp Jump asks players to train a freshly-caught Magikarp to jump as high as possible by taking part in daily training sessions and feeding it when it’s hungry. You can then use it to compete against other trainers in a jumping league and progress through the game.

It sounds simple — and it kinda is! — but it’s also strangely addictive.

This app writeup is brought to you by 4K Video Downloader.

If only all video downloaders were this simple! 4K Video Downloader does exactly what it says on the tin: letting you download YouTube playlists and channels in high-quality, complete with all the trimmings.

That means 360-degree video, subtitles, and your choice of 4k, 1080p, or 720p quality (provided that they’re available.) Simply copy the video link from your browser and tap “Paste URL.” What could be easier? Oh, and you can download videos from other services like Vimeo and Facebook, too.

Crazy Taxi

Few games instantly summon up images of MY misspent high school study periods than SEGA’s 1999 arcade hit Crazy Taxi. One of the most fun, pick-up-and-play games for the criminally underrated Dreamcast, Crazy Taxi was first ported to iOS way back in 2012, costing $4.99.

This week it got an upgrade, updating the game for 64-bit processors, as well as making it free to play. To account for this, SEGA has added some in-game ads, but as of now these aren’t too bothersome. If you’ve never gotten around to playing this insanely addictive game, or just never picked it up on mobile, this is your chance to relive an arcade classic for free.

Readdle

We’re grouping Readdle’s various iPad productivity apps together for this list, because all of them got a big update this week — allowing you to drag and drop content between the entire family of apps. It’s never been easier to multitask and manage your most important files on the go.

The apps in question include Readdle’s Documents (free), PDF Expert ($9.99), Scanner Pro ($3.99), and email app Spark (free). Individually, they’re worth a download; with the latest app update they’re more essential than ever! Check out our “how to” post for details on how to use the drag-and-drop feature to your benefit.
