A perfectly-pitched mash-up of randomly-generated zombie survival RPG, actioner, and text-based interactive fiction game, Death Road to Canada is one of the year’s greatest iOS games — and according to its creators, it’s about to get even better.

PICIn a tweet send by the game’s developers, Rocketcat Games, they’ve submitted an update to Apple adding MFi controller compatibility — although with the hint of an extra “special surprise feature.”

Given that one of the few legitimate criticisms of the game on iOS is that the touch-based control scheme could be annoying and cumbersome, this is certainly great news if you’re a serious iOS gamer, who uses a wireless controller when you game. (And if you’re not, I’d suggest that Death Road to Canada is good enough it may even justify the cost of an MFi controller on its own.)

For those unfamiliar with it, Death Road to Canada was previously made available on Steam, after a development process dating back to August 2013. If you’re a zombie fan, a road trip fan, or, heck, a Canada fan, you can’t go wrong with this game — which blends great pixel art and a quirky sense of humor with zombie-chasing action.

You can download Death Road to Canada for $7.99 from the App Store. Given that Apple’s review process isn’t an exact science, it’s not immediately obvious when the MFi controller update will be available, but the developers think it should be around April 13.
