Consider yourself a YouTube addict? You’re one of millions around the world.

So many people now visit the site on a regular basis that over 1 billion hours of video are being consumed every single day.

Google decided several years ago that focusing on the amount of views YouTube videos received wasn’t the best way to understand what users were enjoying. Instead, it now counts the amount of time we spent watching a video, and last year, it surpassed a major milestone.

YouTube fans around the world are now enjoying over 1 billion hours of video on a daily basis. That’s 100,000 years of video being consumed every day.

It’s estimated that around 3.2 billion people on Earth have access to the internet. To reach this milestone in a day, every single one of us would have to watch just over 18.6 minutes of YouTube video each.

The milestone represents “the enjoyment of the fantastically diverse videos that creative people make every single day,” YouTube says.

“Around the world, people are spending a billion hours every day rewarding their curiosity, discovering great music, keeping up with the news, connecting with their favorite personalities, or catching up with the latest trend.”

Like Facebook, YouTube has only gotten more and more popular since it launched way back in 2005. Its bubble is yet to burst, and as more and more people gain access to the internet, it’s only a matter of time before than 1 billion becomes 2 billion.

Google has done its part to keep us entertained, too. Over the years it has added live streaming from mobile, a platform for live video gaming, increased support for captions, and more. Just last week it confirmed it was cutting unskippable 30-second ads just for fans.
