Shouldn't a Romeo and Juliet ad really be about star-crossed Android and iOS owners?

Apple’s launched another heartstring-tugging ad in time for the holidays, with an iPhone 7 commercial showing a teary-eyed dad filming his daughter in a school play version of Romeo and Juliet.

As with many of the other iPhone 7 ads, it focuses on the handset’s new camera upgrade, but ditches the moody black and white aesthetic for a more colorful one.

The ad is well-crafted, although probably not as memorable as the recent “Frankie’s Holiday” Christmas commercial. It uses the same “practically magic” tagline, last used in Apple’s tremendous “Balloons” ad in late September.

The “Romeo and Juliet” ad hits a lot of the classic Apple touchstones: showing how technology can be used to record sentimental family moments, a la the celebrated “Misunderstood” Apple ad from a couple of years back.

Hey, at least this time the filmer in question knows that any self-respecting person shoots in landscape, not portrait mode!
