The iPhone 7 has been on sale for less than a week and hackers have already been able to jailbreak it. Photos posted on Twitter show Cydia, the home of jailbreak apps and tweaks, installed on a device running iOS 10.0.1.
Apple left its kernel unencrypted when it rolled out early versions of the iOS 10 beta in an effort to find and fix vulnerabilities faster. But it seems the company wasn’t able to eliminate all of them before iOS 10 made its public debut last week.
Just days after the iPhone 7 reached users around the world, the device has already been jailbroken. Luca Tedesco, a hacker and security researcher, posted the photo below on Twitter, confirmed Cydia version 1.1.26 had been successfully installed on an iPhone 7 running iOS 10.

Excited? Don’t be. Tedesco developed this jailbreak for personal use, and he won’t be releasing it for the community. That means your dream of getting jailbreak apps and tweaks on your shiny new iPhone 7 won’t become a reality just yet.
Nevertheless, this is still a promising development. If Tedesco has been able to jailbreak the iPhone 7 this quickly, it shouldn’t take too long for teams like Pangu, which released the most recent jailbreak for iOS 9, to develop a hack for everyone.
That’s if Apple doesn’t patch the vulnerability that makes this possible in its next iOS 10 update, of course.
