A new photo of the iPhone 7 Plus promises to provide us with a closer look at its dual-lens camera ahead of Apple’s official unveiling this fall. But can it be trusted?
Earlier this week, we learned it’s easy to buy iPhone 7 clones made in China for as little as $150. That’s why you probably shouldn’t assume all the “leaked” photos that surface on social media networks like Weibo are genuine.
Bear that in mind when looking at these pictures of an alleged iPhone 7 Plus. According to TechTastic, they provide us with our first “quality” look at that dual-lens camera everyone’s excited for, but it almost certainly won’t look anything like this.
As we’ve seen from previous leaks, the aluminum unibody on Apple’s next-generation iPhones is shaped to wrap around the camera lens, allowing Apple to do away with that metal ring that surrounds the iSight camera on existing models.
The camera seen in the image above has a metal ring, and it looks incredibly cheap and tacky. It also has shiny chamfered edges, which Apple has avoided in recent years (they were made matte for the iPhone SE) because they scratch too easily.
While the real iPhone 7 Plus will likely look very similar to this, then, expect the camera to look a lot better.
