Don’t expect your iPhone 7 to be any thinner

Some reports have claimed Apple’s next-generation iPhones will be its thinnest yet, but according to a new schematics leak, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be just as thick as the company’s latest models.

But that doesn’t mean the headphone jack is sticking around.

A growing list of leaks have all but confirmed the next iPhones will look almost identical to the last (and the one that came before it), with only minor changes to their design — like revamped antenna bands. We knew they would be just as tall and just as wide, then.

Now new schematics published by LetemSvetem Applem, and obtained from a supposedly reliable source, indicate the new iPhones will be just as thick, too. In fact, the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone is expected to be ever so slightly thicker at 7.2mm, up from 7.1mm.

The 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus is expected to remain at 7.3mm thick, just like the iPhone 6s Plus.

Interestingly, the schematics also suggest neither handset will have a headphone jack on its bottom edge. That means that Apple may be removing it — and forcing you to buy new headphones — without making your iPhone slimmer and lighter to make up for it.

Where's the damn Smart Connector, Apple?!

Other interesting things to note are the dual-lens camera on the iPhone 7 Plus — which we knew would be exclusive to that model — and the Smart Connector, which also appears only on the larger model.

A recent report claimed Apple had “shelved” plans to bring a Smart Connector to the iPhone, but we continue to see it in leaks like this one. It seems odd, however, that the smaller iPhone 7 will miss out on it.

Of course, we can’t confirm these leaks are genuine, so take them with a pinch of salt for now. While it’s looking increasingly likely the new iPhones will look familiar, and that Apple will introduce a dual-lens camera, the Smart Connector and headphone jack are still up in the air.
