Apple Files For “iTunes Live” Trademark

I wish I could tell you that LaLa.com is coming back or that Apple is bringing music subscriptions and unlimited downloads to our iPhones/Pads. I can’t.

What is apparent is that Apple has recently filed to trademark “iTunes Live” and  plans to use it for two things:

- Online retail store services in the field of entertainment featuring prerecorded musical, audio and audiovisual content

- Entertainment services, namely, arranging and conducting of concerts and live musical performances

Apple could not only have their hands in the way we purchase and listen to music, but also live music performances and  the ability to make them readily available as product. Let’s just hope this signals one of many features to be made available this summer with the iPhone OS 4 release and impending iTunes upgrade.

Apple already does this in the UK.
Happens every year, live performances by band to an audience who have applied for tickets on iTunes. Apple then sells the performances on iTunes afterwards.

George is correct, I have several such iTunes performances from Hadouken!, Elliot Minor, etc.

I’m also a little surprised Apple is filing for this trademark “now”. They’ve been using this trademark for years. I think they started in the UK with the “Live from London” sessions, but you can get “iTunes Live” recordings from dozens of artists from dozens of countries.

This’d be pretty cool if big name groups do “iTunes LIVE” exclusive performances.

Lala’s stuff could fall into this realm, as it is a tool for selling since you can only play a song once for free. unless you’ve bought it already

so I wouldn’t count it out.
