Paradox Interactive’s hilarious send-up of fantasy tabletop gaming (think Dungeons and Dragons), Knights of Pen and Paper 2, has just gotten a new free expansion.

Called “Back to the Source,” it has two new character classes, higher level caps, an all new mega-dungeon, and a ton of funny stuff packed into it — all for free.

Apparently, the developers missed a saving roll for monetization today.

Knights of Pen and Paper 2 is a turn-based role playing game that tasks you and your party of adventurers to delve deep into the experience of playing a tabletop fantasy game, like we used to back in the days of yore. You’ll choose warriors and wizards as the alter egos of the pizza guy, grandma, and the geek, meet your friendly NPC dungeon master, and start out slaying bats on your way to greater glory (and bigger monsters). The whole game is filled with humor, charm, and fun leveling-up and rolling dice mechanics.

The team has also put together an all-the-stuff-in-one-place edition, called the Deluxiest Edition of Knights of Pen & Paper 2, which comes with the main game and the three expansions, including “Back to the Source,” “Here Be Dragons,” and “Fist of +1 Fury.” If you grab the Deluxiest version, you’ll also get an Epic Mount, a digital art book, an exclusive in-game location called the Grinding Farm (hah), and a 14-song soundtrack full of chip tune joy.

Knights of Pen and Paper 2 is available in all its glory on Steam for Mac, Windows, and Linux, and for $2.99 on the App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android.

The Steam version is typically $7.99, but is currently available for 60 percent off at $3.19. The Deluxiest Edition (for Mac, Linux, or Windows) is $14.99.

If you’re looking for a fun way to re-engage your nostalgia for your misspent D&D youth, you won’t find a better (and funnier) way anywhere. Give Knights of Pen and Paper 2 a try today; you can thank us later by sending us a nice bag of holding.
