Charlie Rose has become Apple’s go-to guy when it comes to mainstream media interviews, and he recently scored an exclusive conversation with none other than Apple’s design god, Jony Ive.

In a leisurely chat lasting more than half an hour, Rose asks about Ive’s relationship with Steve Jobs, the qualities Apple looks for in a would-be designer, the reason Ive doesn’t fear Apple losing its edge, and much, much more.

Check it out below.

As noted, the interview is pretty leisurely — and unlike Rose’s chats with the likes of Tim Cook, there’s no hurry to hit certain political topics, like Apple’s focus on encryption.

While I would very much like to have heard Ive’s responses to questions about an Apple Car, future Apple Watch iterations and similar topics, what we get instead is more of a deep dive into Ive’s philosophy at Apple.
My personal favorite quote? Jony saying that, were he not at Apple, he’d probably be designing Christmas tree ornaments for his friends. One gets the impression he’s not being totally serious, but it suddenly made me really keen to see whatever festive aluminum creation Ive would come up with!
