Some reports have suggested that when the 4-inch iPhone SE arrives next month, it’s updates over the iPhone 5s will top out with the addition of an A9 chip and NFC for Apple Pay. But reputable KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo says shutterbugs have something to look forward to, too: a sick 12MP camera.
Previously, it was rumored that the iPhone SE would ship with an 8MP rear-facing camera, similar to the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 camera. In actuality, though, it will gain a similar module to the one in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
In fact, the iPhone SE will have a lot in common with the iPhone 6s, including its A9 chips, its NFC capabilities, and its curved form factor. Kuo also says that the iPhone SE will Apple’s new 4-inch iPhone could also feature 16GB and 64GB storage capacities, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, Live Photos support, and a larger 1,642 mAh battery (at least when compared to the iPhone 5s).
All in all, the iPhone SE sounds more like a 4-inch iPhone 6s than an updated iPhone 5s. The one exception is 3D Touch, which Kuo says won’t be featured on the handset.
As for price, Kuo suggests that the iPhone 5s’s price will be cut in half, and the new iPhone SE will cost somewhere between $400 and $500, making it a good option for emerging markets.
Anyone else planning on picking up the iPhone SE? I know my wife, with her dainty hands is, but I’d find it impossible to go back to a smaller screen at this point. What about you?
